The Log Cabin, located at 117 State Street, Smithland, Kentucky, is the office of the Livingston County Historical Society. We are open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please stop by. Everyone is welcome!

Our Mission

The mission of the Livingston County Historical & Genealogical Society is to preserve, protect, provide and promote the living history and natural history of Livingston County for future generations.

 

We offer the public the opportunity to view our collections.

 

We also provide assistance to people who are researching information on their ancestors who have lived in Livingston County.

 

We publish a quarterly newsletter that is mailed to members.

Mary Lou Smith
Livingston County's Historian

Mary Lou served as secretary and/or corresponding secretary for the Society for over 20 years. She was influential in publishing two volumes on families and the history of Livingston County. In addition to typing and proofreading these books, she contacted and encouraged people to contribute their family stories. Mary Lou Smith is listed in Who’s Who in Kentucky Genealogy and is a Kentucky Colonel. She has been cited by authors and writers as a source for help in authenticating information in their publications. Mary Lou Smith deserves recognition for her contribution to the preservation of the history of Livingston County.
